Vinyl Chart

On the 13th of April, the Official Chart Company announced that they are releasing a separate chart specifically for Vinyl Records.

"Sales of vinyl have grown five fold in the UK in the last five years"

"Figures show sales of vinyl albums are set to grow by another 70% this year."

"2014 witnessed vinyl LP sales reaching a 20-year high in the UK at 1.29 million, following seven years of unbroken growth, and now, new Official Charts Company data for the first quarter of 2015 reveals that this trend is continuing at pace, with vinyl album purchasing up yet again a staggering 69% versus the same period in 2014, and vinyl singles also up 23%."

“The chart will not only help us to better understand which artists and type of music are driving this resurgence, but will also help guide a new generation of younger, but emotionally engaged, fans as they contemplate the vinyl delights that await them.”

Alex Gaskarth, frontman of band All Time Low, midweek leaders on the official albums chart who are also on track to claim one of the biggest-selling vinyl records of the week, said: “What I love is there are different worlds of vinyl fans: there’s the audiophiles who swear by the sound of vinyl, the people who like owning it as a collector’s piece, and then groups like our fans who buy a vinyl of our record simply so they can hang it on their wall.”

This is great news for me because it shows that vinyl records aren't as niche as they used to be, and there is a higher possibility that my vinyl records will sell more because of this. Also, the chart will make vinyl records more accessible to people, so they can search for a record they like, and fans of the artist will want to get is as high up the chart as possible.

Planning The Evaluation

I have started to think about what I will say for the evaluation, and how I can use my blog posts to support what I am saying.

Ways I will present it:

- Video of me talking
- Written blog post
- Prezi
- Audio Notes and clips

1.    Forms and Conventions
How real is it?
Compare other videos to mine - split screen with audio over the top
Deconstruction
Where I got my inspiration
Compare my digipack with others
Compare magazine advert to others
What forms and conventions were used and how
How closely did I stick to the conventions and why

2. Combination

How well do the 3 products work together?
Identify links e.g. font, text size, spacing, same logo, black background
Success of branding - easily recognisable and linked
Get audience feedback
Link to research and planning
Comparison
Links between all 3 i.e. band logo, typography, greyscale colour scheme, mystery, minimalism etc.

3. Audience Feedback

What feedback did i get during the process - screenshots from blog
Surveys, questionnaires, audio notes
How did I use these to develop my piece
Feedback for completed work - what I learned
Refer back to surveys and results
Digipak audience feedback
Evidence of improved work after comments

Magazine Advert Analysis

I have done a deeper analysis of my magazine advert, after looking at the feedback from my target audience.

I look at the different characteristics used on my advert, and how they appeal to my target audience

Comparison of Videos

As I said on my last post, here is my new updated video and the old video before I changed the contrast of my clips and made the few adjustments my teacher recommended:

Experimenting With Contrasts

After looking at my video and the comments that my teacher left, I have made all of the changes that he recommended and have played around with the contrast of light in my clips.
Below are the before and after pictures:

I like how the clips stand out more now, and they look of higher quality because of the change in the light. I have changed the contrast for every clip in my video, and I will upload the new and updated video in my next post, alongside the old video with the un-contrasted clips, so you can see the difference.

Updated Magazine Advert

After taking into account the comments from the survey as part of my target audience research, I have updated my magazine advert:

I have made the stars and 'Rolling Stone Magazine' writing at the top a little bit smaller, and made the band's logo bigger so that it stands out more to people flicking through a magazine. I have still kept continuity with my other print products because the size of the font and the image are still the same proportions they are on the digipack, but they have just been adapted to stand out in a magazine.

I have made the QR code slightly smaller, so that your eyes are drawn to the logo first, but the code still catches your attention, which was suggested in my survey results.

I hope this makes my advert more appealing to my target audience, and will increase the chances that it will catch people's eye when flicking through a magazine.
