CD Spine Research

Below is some research I have done into the spine on CDs. The common features I found on nearly all of the spines are:

  • Band Name
  • Album Title
  • Catalogue Number
  • Record Label Name / Logo

And, below, is the spine I have designed for my CD.

I put the logo for the record label in the top left hand corner because I wanted to space out the writing and images on the spine, so it made sense to have it in the corner.
I placed the name of the band in the center of the spine so it will catch people's attention when they're browsing. Also, it is a self-titled album, so 'Little Gone Life' is the name of the band but also the name of the album, but I didn't want to write it twice as I want the spine to look as simple as possible, which is why I kept the writing to the minimum.
The third and last thing on my CD spine is the catalogue number, which is on every CD spine. I used the font that I have used throughout my CD booklet and print products to keep continuity.

I have added this to my digipack design (see below).
